Genoa City, Wisconsin

Genoa City is a village in Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,949 at the 2000 census. The village is located partially within Kenosha County, Wisconsin and partially within Walworth County, Wisconsin. There is also a separate village named Genoa, Wisconsin in Vernon County, Wisconsin.

The town is the setting for the popular soap opera The Young and the Restless, although the real and fictional towns are similar only in name.

Genoa City is located at 42°30′13″N, 88°19′34″W (42.503612, -88.326063)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 5.8 km² (2.2 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,949 people, 674 households, and 512 families residing in the village. The population density was 337.4/km² (875.1/mi²). There were 699 housing units at an average density of 121.0/km² (313.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.49% White, 0.15% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.31% from other races, and 1.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.23% of the population.

There were 674 households out of which 48.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.7% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.9% were non-families. 19.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.30.

In the village the population was spread out with 34.0% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 35.8% from 25 to 44, 15.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 101.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.3 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $49,338, and the median income for a family was $56,298. Males had a median income of $39,890 versus $24,671 for females. The per capita income for the village was $18,044. About 3.7% of families and 4.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.4% of those under age 18 and 5.0% of those age 65 or over.
