Geneva School, Winter Park

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Geneva School is a classical Christian school located in Winter Park, Florida, which accepts students K-4 through grade 12. Geneva was established in 1993 and has since grown to include a student body of over 425.

As a classical school it breaks the education into three parts, the Grammar, the Dialectic, and the Rhetoric. The grammar stage, grades K-6, provides students with the basic tools needed for learning with a strong emphasis placed on learning dates, places, etc. During the Dialectic stage, logic is introduced and the study of Latin becomes more rigorous. The final stage, Rhetoric, is the culmination of the education and the most important stage. The Rhetoric stage is focused mainly upon teaching students how to argue persuasively. The class of 2009 is expected to be the largest graduating class to date, with about 35 students (about five times the size of the class of 2001, the school's first graduates).

Although small, Geneva strives to offer its students the best education possible. Latin is offered beginning in grade three and is taught through high school. Students are able to use their Latin education to improve their English and foreign language skills throughout their lives. Geneva also offers AP classes whenever an interest in a certain subject is shown by students, and allows high school students to study for and take AP tests independently if no class is offered. In all that it does Geneva always strives to do and align itself with the triadic virtues: goodness, truth, and beauty.
