The Generalitat Valenciana is a group of institutions in which the self-government of the Land of Valencia is politically organised. It consists of the Corts Valencianes, the President of the Generalitat, and the Executive Council or Government.

[edit] History

The Corts Valencianes created the Generalitat Valenciana in 1418, with posts for three years, and an executive and administrative function comparable to current Government. In 1510 there was a reorganization on how posts were designated, in a more automatic and less elective way. This organism continued with this structure until 1709, as a consequence of the War of the Spanish Succession and the subsequent Nueva Planta decrees.

The Generalitat Valenciana was not re-established until 1982, after the corresponding Valencian Statute of Autonomy was approved.
