Gene Adam was the original singer of Iced Earth/Purgatory, he wrote most of the lyrics along with Jon Schaffer and Randall Shawver. When Jon Schaffer was writing on the new album Night of the Stormrider he didn't think that Gene could handle the vocal parts and high notes so he asked Gene to take singing lessons, Gene refused and was fired. John Greely replaced Gene. Gene was also the singer of Unearthed for a short time together with fromer Iced Earth basist Dave Abell and former guitarist Randall Shawver. He now has a family and lives in Florida.
