Talk:Gemini
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It looks like we've got a real mess with the combination of Gemini, Gemini (constellation), and Gemini (disambiguation), and I may have occluded it even more with this revert, but I think under the circumstances it was necessary -- for the moment. When I stumbled onto it, Gemini and Gemini (disambiguation) were identical twins themselves with the exception of the fact that the disambiguation page directs users to... Gemini for the constellation, making a sort of endless loop. This means that anyone going to Gemini couldn't find the proper article without knowing to look for Gemini (constellation), and furthermore there was no longer a link to Gemini (disambiguation) which could be reached from that point.
A consensus has to be reached on the question of whether the page for the constellation should be the primary result when "Gemini" is searched for. If so, then Gemini (constellation) can go away (or redirect to Gemini), as it's redundant, and the existing link to Gemini (disambiguation) serves its purpose to direct people to other uses of the term. If not, then I'm thinking that Gemini should redirect to Gemini (disambiguation), rather than looking like a disambiguation page on its own (those two pages then being redundant as well).
Lastly, if the decision is made to redirect Gemini to the disambiguation page, there's going to need to be a lot of link cleanup (that's how I stumbled onto this to begin with)... so that's something to consider in deciding which way to go. JFMorse 09:15, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- links to disambiguation - Aries Taurus Leo Virgo Libra Scorpio Sagitarrius Capricorn Pisces
- links to constellation - Aquarius
- links to other - Cancer
- I'm linking this one to the disambiguation page, and changing Aquarius as well. I think it would be best if they all matched, and changing those 2 requires the least work. --Todd(Talk-Contribs) 09:40, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Even though more discussion should have occured before this change took place, it does seem that Gemini (constellation) isn't more of a primary topic than any of the other Gemini articles, so it should probably be okay. Something about disambiguation pages, though; when there is no primary topic, the disambiguation page should be located at "Foo", rather than "Foo (disambiguation)". The latter should redirect to "Foo". So in this case, Gemini currently redirects to Gemini (disambiguation), but it should be the other way around. I will take care of fixing this. -- Natalya 23:15, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
