The Geisinger Health System (GHS) is a physician-led health care system of northeastern and central Pennsylvania with headquarters located in Danville, Pennsylvania.

Danville resident Abigail Geisinger, widow of iron magnate George Geisinger, used her fortune to build a hospital intended to be a regional medical center modeled on the Mayo Clinic. Founded in 1915, Geisinger Health System provides more than two million people in 38 counties in Pennsylvania a complete continuum of quality health care. The Geisinger Health System enjoys national recognition as a model for quality health service delivery and has been listed in Best Hospitals in America, and its physicians have been listed in The Best Doctors in America. Its primary care facility is the Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) located in Danville, with its secondary facility, the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center (GWV), located near the city of Wilkes-Barre. There are several Geisinger clinics throughout northeastern Pennsylvania in Wilkes-Barre, Pittston, Wyoming, Scranton, Dallas, Plains, Kingston, and other surrounding cities and towns.

Geisinger's original signature logo has emerged as somewhat of a cultural symbol in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton metro area.

Since the late 1990s, Geisinger has embarked on three attempts to garner the attention of people and it seems to have been successful up to this point. The first campaign focused on the positive reaction and responses of actual patients who had sought medical treatment from Geisinger. Months later, billboards and TV ads in the area highlighted the care and love and patience of the doctors who worked at Geisinger. More recently, in February 2006, it embarked on a new pitch in which the hospital promoted itself as a system that is "redefining boundaries" with backdrops of beautiful wooded areas in the outyling rural towns of Wilkes-Barre and Scranton in the form of both billboards and television commercials, with one of the advertisements actually airing during the 78th Academy Awards. Thus far, statistics have proven that more awarded doctors work at Geisinger, more patients visit it and more job opportunities, and resources are available at it than both the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and the Scranton Community Medical Center.[1]
