The GE EP-5 was a double-ended rectifier electric locomotive built in 1955, by General Electric. They were built for the New Haven Railroad. When New Haven merged with Penn Central, they were given a new designation as the GE E40, and were assigned to freight service. When Penn Central merged with Conrail, the remaining 6 E40s were stored until 1977, when all of them were retired. All examples of these locomotives were scrapped.
