User talk:Gbleem

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello, welcome to Wikipedia. Here's some tips:

 • You can introduce yourself on the new users page.
 • You can sign your name using three tildes, like ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
 • Remember to use the show preview button before you save a page.
 • If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page.

Other useful pages are: how to edit, how to write a great article, naming conventions, manual of style and the Wikipedia policies.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Angela. 06:25, Mar 29, 2004 (UTC)

Hey, just a quick note: when leaving a note for other users, you usually leave it on their user talk page (for example, User talk:Jesster79, not User:Jesster79). Not a big deal, but in the future... Thanks, Meelar 19:32, 16 May 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Digital audio player

Thanks for attempting to edit the Digital audio player article. Though your changes mean well, they do not follow the rules of Wikipedia, and CD MP3 players ARE digital audio players nevertheless (see the discussion page to find out why). Because of that, I have decided to revert all of your changes. Thanks anyway. --Jw21 (PenaltyKillah) 19:13, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Moving of Bentley

You moved Bentley to Bentley (automobile). I have moved it back. The only reason to do that move is to put Bentley (disambiguation) in its place, and you didn't do that. I would disagree with that move, also; the car manufacturer is so much better known than anything else of that name that it deserves to be at the primary position. —Morven 06:19, Oct 11, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Computer mouse

You uploaded Image:Firstmouseunderside.jpg, which is used in this article. Please edit that image description page and provide a source for that image. (URL, if online; ISBN, if scanned from a book; and if you've taken the image yourself, just say so). Thank you. Lupo 07:57, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] African American

Hi Jeff,

You edited the African American article many times yesterday. Generally, unless you are preventing vandalism, the accepted practice is to do no more than three edits per day. Welcome to Wikipedia :) Joey7F 13:20, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Because I was editing my own edits I would say we can call that all one edit. I think the three edit rule applies to playing battle of the edits.

After my initial insert of the previously deleted text I found some comments in talk and decided to read the POV articles where I found the suggestion to put in the POV message.

"Okay, I took another look at it, you are indeed right about the "battle of the edits". Thanks for contributing :)" Joey7F 14:31, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Sutton Foster

I wouldn't trust that article claiming she was 27 when she made her Broadway debut in 2002, since she made her debut well before that. Please check her list of credits in the article. Isn't it better to put nothing than be wrong? TOM 19:39, Nov 26, 2004 (UTC)

I typed the note wrong but it did say she was 27 when Millie started on Broadway with her in it in 2002.--Gbleem 13:05, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I never saw the above response until now, because you put it on YOUR talk page rather than mine. Unless a message is placed on a user's page - which triggers the "You have new messages" prompt - chances are he or she may never see it. Re: Foster's age, why print an estimate when Foster herself has gone on record as saying it's nobody's business? Since her official website doesn't list one, I think it's somewhat callous to speculate about it. It's not as if this is a column by Liz Smith, right? :) TOM 13:35, Nov 27, 2004 (UTC)
I just assumed you would put my page on your watchlist if you edited it. I think the estimate of her birth year lets you know that she isn't in her eighties. I could do like we did in my analytical chemistry class and say it's 1975 plus or minus 18 months and then talk about deviations and stuff like that. --Gbleem 13:51, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
You don't have your facts straight. You added "she was given the part AGAIN" . . . again???? She replaced the leading lady during the pre-Broadway tryout and then took the show to Broadway - so when was she given it "again"???? I'm curious - if you're such a Foster expert, why didn'y you ever create an entry for her instead of waiting to edit mine????? Why are you obsessed with adding data that isn't proven???? It just doesn't make sense! TOM 14:09, Nov 27, 2004 (UTC)
Why do you persist in adding a sentence that misconstrues the actual chain of events??? The show opened at the LaJolla Playhouse prior to its Broadway opening. The leading lady wasn't working out. She was fired and replaced by Sutton Foster. The show then moved to Broadway and opened with her as the lead. Period, end of story. Your change makes it sound like there was a break between productions or that she was considered a temporary replacement in San Diego and then offered the role permanently when the show reached New York. And if you want to add a link to any articles, please do so at the bottom of the entry under "External Link". Thank you! TOM 14:58, Nov 28, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Freedom of speech

Thank you for your efforts to shorten Freedom of speech. You are probably not aware that one of the customs here is not to remove significant material from articles without discussing it first on the article discussion page. Once you have reached a consensus with other editors, you can remove the material. Please cite the discussion in the your edit summary. Otherwise, someone like me is likely to revert your edit (as I did just now). In some cases, it is not necessary to discuss a deletion in advance. See Talk:Freedom_of_speech#Significant_deletion_of_material. But it is always good form to add an explanation on the discussion page (as in the cited example). Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 23:29, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for adding Freedom of Speech (International). With that comment, it is much easier to understand the history of the article. Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 06:46, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Danish Pedophile Association

What vandalism? --Gbleem 04:39, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Creating an article which consists of nothing but the name of a person and a link to NAMBLA. That's an attack page. User:Zoe|(talk) 04:41, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

I think you you should give me more than a few minutes to finish an article.--Gbleem 04:46, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Maybe you should create an article which consists of more than links. User:Zoe|(talk) 04:48, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

You deleted it before I could add anything else. Are you sure you are following the deletion guidelines? Wikipedia:Deletion policy --Gbleem 04:53, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
 • Yup. Please don't add this again. - Lucky 6.9 05:09, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
From Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion--"Note that some Wikipedians create articles in multiple saves. Avoid deleting a page too soon after its initial creation, as the author may be working on it."
 • That doesn't apply to link spam. Can't you find something - anything - else to write about? - Lucky 6.9 23:27, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Ok! the article is undeleted, and ready to go. Here's the point where I hand you the round tuits, and ask you to go forth and edit forthwith. (Else it'll land at articles for deletion really quick :-) ). Have fun! Kim Bruning 01:38, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. I've been avoiding the politics of wikipedia and just editing articles. I had now idea how liberal the speedy delete policy seems to be. I suppose I should start getting involved in the icky parts of wikipedia. --Gbleem 01:42, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
Well the idea is that rather than prevent mistakes altogether, the system makes mistakes easily reversible, as you've seen today :-) Now go off and edit that article, before someone slaps an afd on. ;-) Kim Bruning 01:47, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Reposting "nanostubs"

Hi, again. I'm sure you mean this in good faith, but reposting material that falls under a speedy deletion criteria that gets reposted in identical form tends to be frowned on. Can you look to expand that if you wish to repost it later? Thanks. - Lucky 6.9 07:24, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

Ditto "KXTS." Is it TV? Radio? AM? FM? Once more, please don't repost these sorts of things unless you're willing to expand them. - Lucky 6.9 07:26, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

Apparently, "KXTS" is the name of a television station that is, or was, in Victoria, Texas. However, by Google News standards, KXTS is actually KTSM-TV, NewsChannel 9 in El Paso. Matthew Keys 05:55, 13 March 2006

[edit] Red linking

Hi there! In The Hunt for Red October, you recently turned tunnel drive into a link, but there is no article where its pointed. I'm reverting it, and I would suggest that you check to make sure the target articles exist before making link decisions like this in the future. Regards, CHAIRBOY () 17:11, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sarah Silverman link

Gbleem,

I cannot post the video clip of Sarah Silverman below because my family owns evtv1.com and there is a :15 commercial in front of the clip. I have spoken with several long-time editors and they suggested I post the appropriate video clips on the article talk pages for the editors to see if they wish to post them in external links. I did that but you never seemed to see my note. You seem to know about Sarah and if you see the clip, you might wish to add it to the Sarah article.

Eureka Lott has sought fit to revert many of my past edits and I actually understand and have stopped adding video clips completely. It is a bit of a conflict for me to add, but you who work on this article can jointly decide. I will say that a lot of people clicked on the Sarah Silverman video clip of roasting Hugh Hefner when it was up (about 250 people in a week)

All of these clips are 100% legal from a copyright status. You have to decide if the :15 commercial is too obtrusive or if the clips are worth the "pain" of the commercial. I leave it up to you. Jaffer 01:39, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Here is the link of Sarah Silverman roasting Hugh Hefner...we also have the clip Jesus is Magic, but that has NOT been cleared for syndication, so I never tried to include the clip when I was posting.

[edit] WikiProject Missouri

Dear Gbleem, I am beginning the process to create a wikiproject for Missouri. in order to do so i'm required to show that there is a base of at least 5-10 people who would be interested in contributing to such a project. the project would serve to aid in the creation and editing of articles related to the U.S. State Missouri, its cities, counties, geography, transportation, culture, history, education, and so on. It aims to expand Wikipedia's resources on Missouri in a fair and accurate manner. Since you're stated as being a wikipedian in missouri, i wanted to see if you were interested. if you are, please add your username at Wikipedia:Wikiproject/List_of_proposed_projects#Missouri and User:Preschooler.at.heart/Missouri. thanks for your consideration. --preschooler.at.heart my talk - contribs 15:50, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] PRODWarning

I've added the "prod" template to the article Marlon Green, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Marlon Green. If you remove the dated prod template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

[edit] Policies of Speedy Deletion

[edit] speedy deletion

"The word "speedy" in this context refers to the rapid decision-making process, not the length of time since the article was created."

This means that you should check the dates of creation and recent edits and then allow some time for the article to grow. --Gbleem 00:00, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

The proposal to have that article deleted was a text book case of articles that fall under db-empty. It is my recommendation you look into the process of NPP and try flagging some posts. You will quickly realize that your post was not special in that we receive thousands of articles like that who are incomplete or irrepairable and are left blank from that point on. Monitoring newly created articles is our best chance of intercepting the thousands of unacceptable, blank, advertising, attacks, and vandalism on the site. To let them side and then try to sort them by randomly coming across them would be impossible. If you are so worried about the integrity and quality of Wikipedia you should review WP:SPEEDY.

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles that you have created yourself. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please place hangon on the page and make your case on the article's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. Mkdw 04:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC) I deleted the tag and then put it back to be a good rule follower. I still think it should not have been tagged. Why not look at new stuff for obvious vandalism and then look at stuff that's a day or two old. --Gbleem 05:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Mkdw, I think you're putting process ahead of common sense by saying that it "moves onto the category of vandalism" for Gbleem to remove the speedy delete tag from a redirect which he clearly accidentally saved before he meant to. If I'd come across this revision of Roshashana, I'd have deleted it like a shot, but let's be reasonable here - once Gbleem had finished editing it, it was trivially obvious that it was not something which needed deleting. --Stormie 06:05, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
To be clear I deleted it on purpose and then put it back. --Gbleem 14:56, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
I put something on the talk page Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion about this without mentioning this article. I'm hoping some people more familiar with the process will contribute some ideas. --Gbleem 14:56, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] James Wormly

Your recent contribution(s) to Wikipedia are very much appreciated. However, you did not provide references or sources for your information. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a drive to improve the quality of Wikipedia by encouraging editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. If sources are left unreferenced, it may count as original research, which is not allowed. Can you provide in the article specific references to any books, articles, websites or other reliable sources that will allow people to verify the content in the article? You can use a citation method listed at inline citations that best suits each article. Thanks! It sounds interesting-this guy was there when Abraham Lincoln died- but it needs a source or something to verify it.Fisheromen 22:26, 30 September 2006 (UTC) It has a citation and it was there when you labled it as not having a citation. This lets see how fast we can jump on an article after it is created really pisses me off. --Gbleem 22:30, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

 • I would also like to find a source for the statement that Wormley was the only African American present at Lincoln's bedside when he died. In particular, I don't even see Wormley mentioned in the cited page from the Antiques Roadshow web site. --Metropolitan90 01:40, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
It is a show. You have to watch the show. Not everthing cited on Wikipedia is available online. --Gbleem 04:10, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Red-dyed 80/87 Avgas and untaxed fuel

Hi, Gbleem, thanks for your many contributions to Wikipedia! I was looking at the Avgas article, and I noticed that on 15:59, July 7, 2006, you added the statement "Untaxed agriculture fuel is also dyed red which has resulted in contamination leading to engine damage and death." (diff) Someone tagged that statement as needing citation, and I think I agree. I can find sources to verify that untaxed fuel is dyed, often red. I've not been able to find any source that says having the two fuels both dyed red has resulted in contamination, has led to engine damage, and has led to death. If you've got a source for the latter claim, would you please add it to the Avgas article in a <ref>? Otherwise I may cut the part about "has resulted in contamination", and simply cite that untaxed fuel is dyed red, which leads to the possibility of confusion. Thanks! --Jdlh | Talk 19:30, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Exceptional claims on a BLP

You were previously kind enough to comment on the BLP Nick Baker (chef) case. I am not too familiar with wikiquette, so if this is the wrong place to ask a question please direct me to the correct place, but in your opinion would be correct to say that claims introduced by an editor on a biography of a living person that includes material that brings into question a person's or group's integrity and honesty and further, claims they misrepresented the case, could be described as "Exceptional Claims" as per Wikipedia:Reliable_sources? I refer particularly to Nick_Baker_(chef)#Criticism_of_Baker_and_the_Support_group Thanks again. David Lyons 14:40, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

My spider sense tells me this isn't the correct question. --Gbleem 08:57, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
This has already been answered here User_talk:Jossi#Exceptional_claims_on_a_BLP.
David Lyons is acting in bad faith by using narrow interpretations of Wikipedia guidleines to try to suppress information negative to his campaign to free Baker. So far he has tried to deny the relevant section by saying the sources were self-published (dealt with on WP:RS). Next he tried to misrepresent the notability of the source saying the magazine is minor (it isn't), then the publisher's expertise (it's relevant). Now he tried exceptional claims with you (they aren't). Now he is onto undue weight (if anything the article is too positive to Baker).
While this is all very educational re the workings of Wikipedia, might I humbly suggest that if David Lyons cares so much about Wikipedia quality, that he actually works to improve other sections of the article instead? Sparkzilla 22:55, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Request for edit summary

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Melanie Martinez.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Melanie Martinez.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Narcissism

It's ok, I deleted that bit from Malignant Narcissism already. It was just one of those pragmatic statements that looks so assured and convincing, until you look closely and check. :o) --Zeraeph 19:57, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image_talk:Fem_isa_2.gif

I was wondering whether you can give me the name of the guy who got the permission from the author to license it under GFDL. If it's you, you need to send an email to permissions@wikimedia.org mentioning http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Fem_isa_2.gif containing the original permission.
