Gay's the Word

Gay's the Word is a musical. Its premiere performance was at the Palace Theatre in Manchester, England, on 17 October 1950. It transferred to the Saville Theatre in London, opening there on 16 February 1951. It ran for 504 performances. The book and music were by Ivor Novello and the lyrics were by Alan Melville.

Gay's the Word consists of a series of musical set pieces, interlinked with dialogue. The story centres on Gay Daventry attempting to bring a musical to London. However, unfortunately it is not a success.

Gay's The Word is also the name of the only gay bookshop in London. founded in 1979.
