I served 28 years in the RAF as an engine tradesman, starting as an apprentice in 1966, working on Lightnings (60MU [1969-71] & 19Sqn [1971-3]), Vulcans (27 Sqn [1973-82]), Rolls Royce Spey Mk 101, 250 & 251 (Engine Bay,RAF Kinloss [1982-6]), Nimrod AEW (RAF Waddington [1986-88]), Nimrod MR2 (Major Servicing, RAF Kinloss [1988-9]) and MACD, RAF Swanton Morley [1989-94]. Interests are steam age railways of Britain, with a particular interest in L&Y, Midland,LMS and BR(M) plus Dinorwic Quarry and the W&LLR. I saw steam in the Burnley and Skipton areas in the 1960s and have been a railway modeller since the late 60s. I have written two Branchline booklets for the L&Y Society (Holcombe Brook and The North Lancs Loop)but am no longer a member.
