The Gavin family refers to the family of Tommy Gavin the lead character on the FX drama Rescue Me.

• Michael Gavin. The father of Tommy and his various siblings. Mr. Gavin is a former firefighter and is in his 80's. Senile and something of an eccentric kook. Tommy often complains that he's like a fourth child he has to take care of. He has an illegitimate son with his former mistress of 36 years named Liam Murphy. In the first season he was named John.

• Teddy Gavin. The much younger brother of Michael Gavin. Teddy is a funny loud mouth. He often pays hookers for sex, bets on horses and does drugs. Teddy kills the man who killed Tommy's son Connor at the end of the second season. In the third season he marries a woman named Ellie so he can get conjugal visits in jail.

• Martha Gavin. Michael's deceased wife and mother of his children (except Liam). The only time we saw Martha was at the funeral viewing in the first season episode Mom.

• Jenny Ng. Mr. Gavin's second wife who was rich and Korean. When she died she was eaten by her cats. Jenny left her fortune to her cats.

• Ellie Gavin. Teddy's second wife. Teddy marries her while in prison.

• Tommy Gavin. Lead character in the series. He is a brave firefighter but is also an amoral, womanizing, manipulative alcoholic.

• Johnny Gavin. Tommy's brother who is a detective. In the third season it was revealed he was sleeping with Tommy's wife Janet. Johnny was killed during a stake out.

• Maggie Gavin. Born Peggy Sue Gavin. Maggie is Tommy's psychotic sister. She is in some ways like a female version of Tommy given her drinking, lying and manipulating. In the third season she marries Sean Garrity.

• Timo Gavin. Tommy's much younger brother. Timo is also a detective. He hasn't been seen since season one.

• Rosemary Gavin. Tommy's deaf sister. Tommy's parents sent her away as a child because they didn't know what to do with her. She appears in the third season finale.

• Father Liam Murphy. Tommy's illegitimate half-brother. Liam is Mr. Gavin's son with his mistress. Liam is a catholic priest. It was revealed that he was a pedophile and he was arrested by Johnny.

• Jimmy Keefe. Tommy's cousin, Sheila's husband and Damien's father. Jimmy died at ground zero in the 9-11 attacks. His ghost still haunts Tommy.

• Mickey Gavin. Tommy's cousin and AA sponsor. Mickey used to be a priest but has since left the priesthood.

• Eddie Gavin. Tommy's cousin who is a lawyer.

• Janet Gavin. Tommy's wife and mother of their 3 children. They have a complex on and off again relationship. In season three it was revealed she was sleeping with Tommy's brother Johnny.

• Sheila Keefe. Jimmy's widow and Damien's mother. Tommy took care of Jimmy's family after his death and eventually began sleeping with Sheila. Sheila is rather unbalanced.

• Angie Gavin. Johnny's ex-wife. In season three she and Tommy pretend to date to make Johnny and Janet jealous. Eventually they sleep together. Tommy was busted when Angie and Janet found out about Tommy sleeping with both of them. Angie was referred to as Jeannie in the first season during a conversation between Janet and Johnny.

• Sean Garrity. Maggie's latest husband and co-worker of Tommy. Maggie and Sean married in the season three finale.

• Colleen Gavin. Tommy and Janet's oldest daughter. She often goes along with whatever trend is currently popular such as getting a tattoo, being a lesbian or a born again Christian.

• Connor Gavin. Tommy and Janet's only son. Connor is killed by a drunk driver in season two.

• Katy Gavin. Tommy and Janet's youngest daughter.

• Damien Keefe. Jimmy and Sheila's son and Tommy's godson. Damien is a computer nerd and a drug dealer. In season three he sleeps with his teacher Ms. Turbody.

[edit] Unseen Relatives

• Peg Gavin. Teddy's first wife. She leaves Teddy. Teddy says she turned out to be a dyke.

• Uncle Teddy's children. Teddy tells Tommy his kids are assholes in season one. Teddy tells Tommy in season two he doesn't have kids.

• Johnny and Angie Gavin's two daughters. One is in reform school according to Tommy.

• Mickey's parents. Presumably Mickey and Tommy's fathers are brothers.

• Eddie's parents. Presumably Eddie and Tommy's fathers are brothers.

• Jimmy's parents and thus Tommy's aunt and uncle.

• Jimmy's two sisters. Jimmy slept in the same room with them growing up.

• Anne Marie Gavin. Presumably an unseen sister of Tommy's. Mr. Gavin called her when he returned from his trip to Ireland according to Johnny. Presumably this wasn't just another name for Maggie or Rosemary. Neither had spoken to Mr. Gavin in years.

• Liam. Tommy's artist cousin.
