Gavan Purdy

Gavan Purdy is an Australian independent music authority. He has managed the bands Magic Dirt and TISM.

TISM (an acronym of This Is Serious Mum) is an anonymous alternative rock band from Melbourne, Australia. The group formed in 1982 and enjoyed a large underground/independent following until 1995 when its third album Machiavelli and the Four Seasons reached the Australian national top 10. By 1985 the band was playing regularly around Melbourne, with the help of Klein Management, a partnership between Gavan Purdy and Michael Lynch.

On July 8, 2004 Purdy took the Australian Federal treasurer, Peter Costello, to task. Costello had lambasted gangsta rap and urged a return to the values of the Bible. Purdy argued that Costello was out of touch. He said most hip-hop - particularly in Australia - has a positive message and is often a vehicle used for stereotyping by the media - and now politicians. Perhaps Costello thinks there should be more Christian rap artists like the Rappin' Rev.

Gavan currently manages bookings for the Esplanade Hotel and appears on Melbourne radio station 3RRR where he hosts the Can You Dig It radio show on Saturdays between 4pm and 6pm. 3RRR is located at 102.7 mhz on your FM dial. On the net the show can be heard on 3RRR webcast
