[edit] Rockman Strategy
Hi Gauntlet! Thanks for altering the Rockman Strategy article. However, as you see above, your change has been reverted and was considered vandalism.
The main problem appears to be that you feel that another article by you has been stolen for this article. I have two questions:
- Is the article you say it was stolen from already on Wikipedia? In other words, did you add it to this encyclopedia, and if so did you see the notice on the edit page about releasing all your works under the GDFL licence and thus making them available to be copied and edited and generally messed about with by anyone and everyone?
- If not, then please can you supply the URL where this article was taken from? We would consider a copy of an article not from Wikipedia to be a copyright violation and would remove it forthwith. I'll happily arrange that if you can supply the address of the site it was taken from.
Let me know, either here or on my talk page. If you need any other help, please get in touch with me. Thanks! ➨ ❝REDVERS❞ 20:47, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Rockman Strategy
http://www.themechanicalmaniacs.com/articles/RMSLG.php This is the original article, as written by me. You can tell it came first as it contains MANY pictures and sprites which I took from the game (which no other site has since it's pretty rare). You can also see comments on the Rockman Strategy discussion page saying that the article is pretty much a copy of "Gauntlet's article from Mechanical Maniacs" (and I am Gauntlet).
I didn't add the article to this site, nor was I ever contacted for permission. My article was used as a pretty obvious base for what is currently on Wikipedia with a few sentences and phrases changed here and there. So, I reverted it back to the article it was before my article was copied.
I don't mind my article being REFERENCED, but .... to copy it so exactly without permission irks me. So if you could do something that'd be great. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gauntlet101010 (talk • contribs) .
- Thanks for letting me know, Gauntlet. Please bear with me whilst I sort this out. I'll get back to you. ➨ ❝REDVERS❞ 11:46, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

- Ok, here's what I've done. I've removed the disputed version of the article and replaced it with the non-disputed text, plus a note that you have officially queried the copyright status of the material. I've then listed that on Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2006 March 10. What happens next: experienced administrators here at Wikipedia will examine the article and make recommendations for what to do about it. In the meantime, the material remains in the history of the article, and there is provision for the article to be worked on on a temporary subpage. But the article that Wikipedia readers will see is just the short "stub" that you were okay with. Thanks for bringing this to our attention - I'll get back to you when the article has been examined (this can take up to a week). Hope this helps. ➨ ❝REDVERS❞ 11:58, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Re: Rockman Strategy
Thanks, Redvers! I hope they decide to leave the article out. Even if they don't I appreaciate your efforts!
- I've hidden all the copies that have the text copied verbatim. It should be fine now. I'll keep it on my watchlist and intervene again if cut and paste content is added to it. --HappyCamper 17:26, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

- You're welcome. I've taken the liberty to add a deterrent on that page which acknowledges that the page is copyrighted. See [1]. Hopefully, this is sufficient to address all the outstanding issues on that page. --HappyCamper 17:53, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks again! It's very tough to make interesting content, so it gets discouraging when it's copied word-for-word here. I'm glad to see this place takes that sort of thing very seriously. --Gauntlet

- You are correct, we take these things quite seriously. Unfortunately, we are also short on people to deal with these issues in a timely manner, so we try to do our best with what we have.

- For your reference, there is a little "contact us" link on the left of your screen. If you click it, you will be taken to this page, where you can report a problem. From there, we have a page specifically for resolving copyright issues here. All the information you need is there. I hope this helps! --HappyCamper 19:26, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
