The GAU-21 is a ramp system .50 caliber machine gun mounted on the rear of a CH-53E Super Stallion. It closely resembles the XM-218 .50-caliber, but is modified to fire farther and faster than the older XM-218. The GAU-21 was purchased January 2004, and is used primarily by the United States Marine Corps.
