Gateway Setup Assistant

Gateway Setup Assistant is a tool in Apple Computer's Mac OS X Server versions 10.4 and higher that guides users through setting up Mac OS X Server as an internet gateway.

It resides as /Applications/Server/Gateway Setup Assistant.app

The Gateway Setup Assistant assumes two network interfaces and will automatically configure the DHCP, NAT, firewall, DNS, and VPN services.

Gateway Setup Assistant will configure as following:

Server Network Interface: 192.168.2.1 (WAN shared as this IP)

DHCP = 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.127

VPN = 192.168.2.128 to 192.168.2.254

It will enable and startup the following services:

- DHCP Server

- DNS server

- Firewall

- VPN Server

- NAT

WARNING: If your select your server's network interface; Gateway Setup Assistant will change the IP of the server (to 192.168.2.1) and as a result your server will be unreachable on your network. To correct this:

- Open "System Preferences" and "Network"

- revert back to your original IP address, router and subnet mask

- under the "Show" popup, select "network Port Configurations"

- select your network interface ("Built-in Ethernet" for example")

- click on the "Duplicate" button and name the new interface "Built-in Ethernet-VPN"

- select the new VPN interface from the "Show" popup

- set IP address=192.168.2.1, mask=255.255.255.0, router=192.168.2.1

- use the command "netstat -nr" and "ifconfig -a" to verify the new setup
