Gateway Medical Research, Inc., founded in 1987 by Dan Shipley is a contract research organization (CRO), specializing in bioequivalence testing of generic drugs.

In September 2005, Gateway Medical Research opened their new 105,000 square foot, single story facility housing ten spacious clinics, with a capacity for 520 study participants in St. Charles, Missouri (St. Louis metropolitan area).

Gateway Medical has a reputation for quality and excellence in clinical trials, and in July 2006, they joined together with PRACS Institute, Ltd. under the umbrella company of CRS.

In October 2006, CRS acquired Ba Research, a bioanalytical laboratory located in Houston, Texas and Toronto, Canada. With the joining of the three companies, CRS became known as Cetero Research.

The name Cetero is derived from the Latin phrase de cetero, meaning for the future. It captures the purpose and philosophy of the new company – to contribute to the future of individuals, families and the healthcare system by conducting rigorous, accurate and timely pharmaceutical research.
