Gaspar Fernandez

Gaspar Fernandez was a Mexican composer of the generation before the more well known Juan Gutierrez de Padilla and was maestro de capilla at Puebla Cathedral, Mexico. He is an important composer of church music, ensaladas and villancicos. His music was taken to Oaxaca Cathedral in the 17th century. The music of Oaxaca Cathedral has recently been researched and some of it should now be available in modern editions.

The Oaxaca manuscripts also include later baroque music by composers such as Manuel de Zumaya
