Gaskynd Granger

Gaskynd Granger was born in Guyana and later settled in Trinidad and Tobago. He is the father of Geddes Granger, and an uncle of David A. Granger. In the 1930s he became a member of the Negro Welfare Cultural and Social Association. He was one of the founders of the Public Works and Public Service Workers Trade Union that was formed in 1937 and served as a member of the Union's executive. He was also a member of the National Union of Government Employees (NUGE). He was active in Tobago as a member of the Tobago Peasants and Industrial Workers Union which was founded by A.P.T. James in 1946.

During his life, he collected the Gaskynd Granger Papers. The collection includes a miscellany of documents: acts, booklets, bulletins, correspondence, financial statements, handwritten minutes, invitations, memos, miscellaneous forms, newspaper clippings, reports.

Mr. Granger gave the papers to Dr. Susan Craig-James, former Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, who donated them to the University's Library in 1993.
