Naturally, this somewhat dubious hand motion and his rhyming name (See Cockney rhyming slang) earned his place in the hearts of 1980s schoolchildren, viz: "Don't be such a Gareth Hunt" (see also cunt).

[edit] Birthdate

I've confirmed he was born in 1942, not 1943. His real name as we know was Alan Leonard Hunt. The England & Wales Birth Index (accessible at Ancestry.co.uk) reveals no Alan L. Hunts born in the first half of 1943, but there was one born in Battersea in 1942. And the Avengers Forever website (amongst others) confirms his birthplace as Battersea.
