Gary Tomlin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gary Tomlin is an American soap opera actor, writer, producer and director. His career on daytime serials began in 1973 when he was cast on Search for Tomorrow as Bruce Carson #1. He later appeared as Morgan Simpson on the NBC soap opera Another World.

He became the headwriter of both those shows. He was also headwriter of the California-based serial Days of Our Lives.

After directing episods of Another World and One Life to Life, he became a soap opera producer for All My Children.

He was the executive producer for the NBC serial Santa Barbara before that show was cancelled. He then was hired by ABC as its One Life to Live's new executive producer.

His contribution to One Life to Live was to incorporate animation to the show. Character Starr Manning would have thoughts to herself, and her daydreams would be shown in animated form. This technique was used for the first time on that show and was very unusual for the soap opera genre.

In 2003, just after One Life to Live won the Emmy award for the Most Outstanding Program, ABC announced that it was replacing Mr. Tomlin.

He has been inactive in television since that time.
