Gary Jules

Gary Jules (born March 19, 1969 in Fresno, California as Gary Jules Aguirre) is an American singer-songwriter.

Jules, together with friend Michael Andrews, recorded a cover of Tears for Fears' third single "Mad World" for the movie Donnie Darko.

In December 2003, two years after Donnie Darko was released, "Mad World" finally reached the charts and became the Christmas Number One in the UK. In early 2004, the song surfaced in the US and Canada. The song has been used on popular American TV shows, such as Without A Trace (Season Two Episode One, "The Bus"), ER, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Smallville (Season Two Episode Eleven, "Visage"), and was used in a trailer and commercial for the Xbox 360 game Gears of War (The song was "rediscovered" and landed Top 10s around the Province of Quebec in Canada in late 2006 / early 2007 especially because of the commercial) . His song "Something Else" was used in Alias Season 3 and Scrubs Season 5, and "Falling Awake" appeared in the Grey's Anatomy episode "Six Days, Part 2".

Some of his early projects / bands were The Ivory Knights, Our Town Pansies, Woodenfish, Kofi, The Origin, "Invisible", "No poety," and "Heroes and Heroin."

Jules' parents are Gary J. Aguirre (former SEC investigating attorney who, after being fired in September, 2005, on June 28, 2006 testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee [1][2]) and Marie Aguirre.

He attended The Bishop's School in La Jolla, California, and later went on to get a B.A. in English at UCLA [3].

Jules graduated in the same class as Andrew Cunanan.
When 'Mad World' was originally released, Jules' vocal style was often compared to that of REM's Michael Stipe.
The acoustic version of 'Mad World' was used in the commercials promoting the XBox 360 game Gears of War.
The song Mad World was used in the ending credits of the fash movie series called M.S.R.E.
