Gary Forney

Gary Richard Forney (born February 12, 1953 in Oelwein, Iowa) American Song Poet and performer. He starred in Off The Charts The Song Poem Story, broadcast on PBS in 2003.

The film gave him status as a cult icon in the little known field of "Song poem" music, leading to his appearance in The New York Times on February 9, 2003.

Gary Forney's song "The Chicken Insurrection" was a tribute to underground cartoonist Gilbert Shelton and has become a song poem classic.

He has furthered his career with performances in Chicago, along with other venues, as singer and lyricist for the surreal Iowa mountain tour of which he is a co-founder along with his son Joshua Forney

In 2006, Gary Forney and his son, Joshua Forney contributed two metal edged blues songs, "Mojo Bone" and "Amelia", to the soundtrack of the comedic horror film "PUPPY", starring Calico Cooper, daughter of rock legend Alice Cooper.

Forney has resided in LaPorte City, Iowa since 1990 with his wife, Bonnie, and daughter, Laura.
He continues to write song poems and music which he performs with his son, Joshua Forney. Gary also produces short films.
