Garudimimus ("Garuda mimic") is a basal member of Ornithomimosauria, known from single specimen discovered from Upper Cretaceous sediments of Mongolia. Previously it was thought that this primitive member of Ornithomimosauria possessed a horn at the top of the skull. However, recent studies have shown that this "horn" was simply a misplaced skull bone. In 1981, Rinchen Barsbold placed it in its own family, Garudimimidae. Most modern studies place it within the previously named family Ornithomimidae, though the subfamily Garudimiminae is sometimes used, and is attributed to Barsbold as a coordinate family under the rules of the ICZN.
