Garry Harley
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Garry Harley is a horseracing tipster and host of Garry Harley's Mounting Yard Mail - a service heard on Australian radio where studio broadcasters cross to a race track for Harley's short priced race tips.
Harley generally attends race meetings in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, but will often venture down to Wyong and Gosford meetings on the Central Coast. Unlike his counterparts such as Ron Dufficy and Wayne Harris, Harley is renowned for tipping short-priced favourites in races, generally offering the punter little value. However, Harley did tip Miss Reality when that horse won its Maiden at Cessnock in 1991, at lucrative odds of 5/1.
His booming voice makes him an instantly recognisable fixture on Australian radio especially due to his trademark expressions "I can't fault this magnificent looking individual," and "He looks a picture of health in the yard,".
Not a small man, Harley enjoys eating chicken in his spare time, to which he attributes his robust stature. He is noted for his appearances in various advertisements on NBN Television.
In 2006, Harley switched camps from 2HD to KOFM to call Newcastle Knights games when 2HD's owners could not agree to terms on National Rugby League (NRL) coverage.
