Garrett Wolfe

Garrett Wolfe (born August 17, 1984 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American football running back for Northern Illinois University. Despite his small size, 5' 7" and 177 lbs, Wolfe has put up large numbers. In 2004 Wolfe rushed for 1,656 yards and 18 touchdowns. Wolfe only played in nine games during the 2005 due to a shoulder injury. The junior finshed the 2005 season with 1,580 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. Wolfe has shown talent against big name programs also.

In 2005 Wolfe rushed for 148 yards on 17 carries against Michigan (8.7 yards per carry). In his first game of the 2006 season the senior got 26 carries for 171 yards (6.6 ypc)and 5 receptions for 114 yards (22.8 ypc) against the No. 1 ranked team in the nation - Ohio State . The senior finshed the season leading the NCAA with 1,900 yards (158.3 yards per game). He was at one point considered a dark horse Heisman trophy candidate for the 2006 season.

Garrett played high school football at Holy Cross High School in Chicago.

Garrett Wolfe is notable because he is considered one of the three best running backs in college football this year. He tied an NCAA record on 9/30/06 by becoming the eighth running back in NCAA history run for 1,000 within the first five games of a season. He is also a projected draft pick for the upcoming 2006-2007 NFL draft. During the 2006 season, Garrett became the second leading rusher in NIU history. He ran for a career-high 353 yards and three touchdowns on September 30, 2006, as the Huskies of Northern Illinois University beat Ball State University 40-28.

After the Ball State game, Garrett has hit a dry spell. He was held to a season-low 25 yards during a 16-14 loss to Western Michigan in Kalamazoo on a chilly Saturday on Oct. 14. G. Wolfe rebounded with 45 yards in one half against Temple on Oct. 21 and had over 60 yards against Iowa in Iowa City. In the game against Toledo, Wolfe has faired no better, only rushing 54 yards on 16 carries. Garrett then rebounded in the game against Central Michigan, rushing for 203 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wolfe ended the regular season against Eastern Michigan gaining 165 yards and a touchdown. His success, however, ended during the 2006 Poinsettia Bowl where he only rushed for 28 yards against TCU.

His 2006 season stats include 1,928 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.

Wolfe finished his college career as the all time NIU leader in rushing yards with 5,165 rushing yards and touchdowns with 52.
