Garissa

Garissa is a city in North Eastern Province, Kenya. It is the capital of the province and Garissa District. Garissa is located near 0°27′25″S, 39°39′30″E. It has a population of 65,881 (1999 census). [1] The Tana River flows through the city of Garissa.

People from Garissa are basically Somalis who were, with or without their will, put under the administration of Kenya. The major clans are Ogaden and a small number of other minority tribes commonly referred to as corner tribes.

There are four constituencies in Garissa District, namely Dujis, Fafi, Lagdera, and Ijara constituency, the latter being part of the newly formed district of Ijara.
