[edit] Episode recap

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Garfield’s vet, Liz, calls Jon and alerts him about a new illness called the Hawaiian cat flu. Jon isn’t worried because he says Garfield never gets sick, but then Garfield hula-dances by as though in a trance.

Jon brings Garfield to the vet and Liz confirms that Garfield indeed has the flu, and that he would dance whenever anyone mentions anything Hawaiian. She prescribes Garfield some medicine, but when Jon gets him home, he refuses to take it. Later, Jon and Odie are later watching a program on TV, where the host says that the next show will feature silly animal stunts, and that the winner will receive one thousand dollars. Jon decides that Garfield’s hula dancing whenever anyone mentions something Hawaiian is silly and he signs them up for the show.

Just before Jon and Garfield leave the house to go to the show, Garfield decides that he should be in his best health when he appears on stage, so unbeknownst to Jon, he reluctantly takes a spoonful of the medicine that Liz prescribed. When they get the show and on stage, the host asks Jon what silly stunt Garfield does. Jon tells him that Garfield dances the hula whenever someone mentions Hawaii, and Garfield doesn’t do so because the medicine had taken effect. Jon then says various Hawaii-related phrases to prompt him, but Garfield not only refuses to dance, but refuses to believe that he ever did such a thing. Jon then puts on a lei and grass skirt himself and dances the hula to an embarrassed Garfield. The host decides that this is the silliest stunt the show has ever had and awards Jon the $1,000.

Back at home, Jon tells Liz that Garfield is over the flu, but then Liz alerts him about the Alaskan cat flu. Jon asks her what symptoms to watch out for, but then Garfield rides by on an Odie-pulled dogsled.

Spoilers end here.

Garfield: That's the temperature of microwave lasagna.

Garfield: My public awaits. I hope I don't have to sign autographs. Mainly 'cause cats can't write.

Host: Would you please welcome Mr. Jon Arbuckle and his cat, Garfield.
Garfield: Next time, I get first billing.
