Garewal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Garewal (also Grewal, Gaharwal, Gaherwal, Ghurwal, Gharwar or Gahrawar) is a gotra or clan of Jats and Rajputs found in the states of Punjab and Rajasthan in India.
[edit] Origin
This gotra claims descent from the Chandela dynasty. Some writers have associated them with the Rathores, but other historians have proved that the Rathore gotra is from the Gaherwal gotra, and is also called Grewal.
In Dholpur in Rajasthan, they are called Ghurwal and in Punjab, Gharwar. Sikhs of this gotra are called Grewals. They have fifty-two villages in the Ludhiana district in the area around the town of Kila Raipur.
The Gahrawar gotra is found amongst Rajputs also, but there are more Gahrawar Jats than Rajputs.
