García de Loaysa

García de Loaysa y Mendoza (b. 1478) was a Spanish Dominican friar from Talavera de la Reina, near Toledo. In youth he was student of the college of San Gregorio of Valladolid, the school of was Rector in adult years. In 1516 was Provincial of Spain. In 1522 confessor of the emperor Charles V. On 8 June 1524 was appointed Bishop of Osma. On August 2, was named president of the Counsel of Indies. This year renounced from the charge of Master of the Dominican Order which deteined from 1518. On 16 May 1530 was created Cardinal of the title of Santa Susanna and on 23 February 1532 was appointed Bishop of Sigüenza. On 23 May 1539 was transferred to the metropolitan see of Seville with the dignity of Archbishop. Died in Madrid on 25 April 1546.
