Garanhuns is a city in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, notable for being the hometown of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, born in Caetés, which was a district of Garanhuns until 1963.

The city is often called "A Cidade das Flores", or "the City of Flowers", and "Cidade da Garoa", or the "Drizzle City". Garanhuns is most famous for the Festival de Inverno, or The Winter Festival, which it holds every year. During the winter, temperatures in Garanhuns can drop to 13 degrees Celsius, or 55 degrees Fahrenheit. This is quite cold for a city that is only few degrees south of the equator.
