Garage band (music group)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Garage band is a general term for startup musicians, often consisting of teenagers and twenty-somethings. The term is derived from the phenomenon of startup bands literally playing in the garages of houses.
Some people form and join garage bands for reasons other than trying to pursue a career in music, including enjoyment playing music or to spend time with their friends. However, many famous bands started as garage bands, for example Metallica has remained proud of their garage roots over the years, and has released albums titled Garage Days Re-Revisited and Garage Inc.
While garage bands commonly play garage rock, many genres yield garage bands.
As an amateur enterprise, a garage band does not need all of the special-purpose equipment and technical gear which a professional rock band requires. Regardless, most garage bands feature the most fundamental instruments in rock music, electric guitar and a drum kit. There are often two types of guitarists in garage bands: rhythm guitarists, who play guitar in the rhythm section along with the bass guitar and drum kit, and lead guitarists, who often play fills and solos.
