[edit] History

[edit] Samurai Shodown 5

Gaoh is the shogun of Japan, and undersaw a pupil: Yoshitora Tokugawa. Concerned about the well-being of his country and famine that had recently affected it, he decided to rebel against the emperor and to this means, attempted to recruit as many followers to his cause as he could.

He also saw potential in his pupil and the views he himself endorsed. Confidant he would rule the country in regards to his beliefs, he told Yoshitora that Japan would only prosper if he accepted the throne. Yoshitora refused however, and Gaoh, determined to bring about a new regime to the country decreed that he would simply have to kill him and become Emperor instead.

The two then battled furiously, but Yoshitora prevailed. Dying, Gaoh explained to his pupil why he rebelled: the famine that had been sweeping Japan would have killed everyone since the current Tokugawa didn't care. As he died, Gaoh begged for Yoshitora to become Japan's Emperor. Yoshitora, finally seeing the truth, agreed to his former master's last request.

[edit] Trivia

  • The design of Gaoh is based of Oda Nobunaga. In the first prototype, Gaoh was called simply as "Nobunaga".[1]
  • He was created by the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, Nobuhiro Watsuki. It is also of note that many of the Samurai Shodown cast designs have been affected by Watsuki.
