[edit] Hi

I've posted at the talk page of Agrippina (opera). You might want to take a look. Cheers, Moreschi 22:01, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] El Greco

Thanks for your remarks! I've given some initial answers to your comments and I'll further work on your suggestions. And I accept, of course, your offer for copy-editing!--Yannismarou 20:36, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Agrippina (opera)

Hi,

I'm just looking at GA reviews sort randomly, to see how it is done.

I'm a PhD student, and as such have become certifiably obsessive about citations & references. So take what I say in that context, but.. the refs in Agrippina (opera) look quite unorthodox to me. Most of them are <ref>Dean</ref>. Let's set aside for the moment the idea of having page numbers...which I fully accept are optional under some schemes... shouldn't the very first citation be a named reference that includes the full info about the book, and the following ones have the same name:

blah blah <ref name=Dean">Winton Dean. Humour with Human Commitment: Handel's "Agrippina" (1997). Brief essay to accompany Gardiner recording</ref> blah blah Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit<ref name="Dean" />

Thanks --Ling.Nut 06:14, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, cites are a rather interesting topic. Really, they are different depending upon who is working on the article. Such is the wiki-way as it is...but to answer your question, I think the only reason one would include the whole citation in the first ref would be if you are using a combined Notes/Refs section. I have only recently started heavily using cites and I always list the References separately and simply use the author's name and page number for the cites, regardless of where they occur in the article. Two articles I've worked on recently where this has been done are David Garrick and Samuel Foote. To me, this system makes the most sense. It's too damn difficult to read combined Ref/Notes sections. As for this article, I honestly didn't look too closely at the cites, more at the content. But, I would be interested to hear your take on what you think is best. *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 14:35, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
  • I don't really grok how wiki handles cites either. Will revisit this topic with you later (see below).
  • I apologize. I started this thread, and now must lamely shuffle off to wikibreak 'til dec. 16 or so. If I don't finish my research papers, my goose is cooked.
  • 'Til then. --Ling.Nut 21:19, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
You might like to have another look at this article for GA - I think I've addressed most of your concerns. Cheers, Moreschi 19:56, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mount Tambora

Hi, thanks for your comments. I have expanded the article, as it was requested also by another FAC reviewer. Now, the article has the Eruptive History section, which includes what you asked in the FAC. Thanks again. — Indon (reply) — 14:56, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi, sorry to bother you again. The article has now 2 more sections: Monitoring and Ecosystem. I hope these two sections would have given the article more angles, as you suggested in the articles' FAC. Cheers. — Indon (reply) — 11:37, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments and support for Mount Tambora article at its FAC entry. It is now featured.

[edit] Greek mythology

Most of my rewriting in the article is completed (2 1/2 subsections are left!). I remomber of your offering to copy-edit the text. I thought this was the right moment to politely ask for this copy-editing. Any further feedback contributions etc. are welcome. Thanks!--Yannismarou 20:44, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Looking for feedback on the status of the FAR, Regards, Sandy (Talk) 16:25, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your welcome

I will follow up the useful links you gave on my Talks Page. As yet I've ventured some additions to the one subject I know about (I wrote the articles in the NewDNB) but mainly, and as an ex-sub, I have a reflex reaction when I see minor errors in the articles I'm consulting. Nothing beyond my capabilities as yet and I hope I'll get more adventurous in time. Ioan_Dyfrig 11:47, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I hate to see such a brilliant editor get bashed for what amounts to triviality. Indeed, not only him, but Giano and Bish seem to be getting the brunt of it as well. The least I could do is bring the alcohol and try to lift spirits (pun intended). I've noticed you around here quite a bit, you appear to really be making your presence known. I'm always glad to see good level-headed editors join the project. Have a drink on me! Cheers! *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 03:41, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Atlanta School of Drama?

I was editing the article on Patrika Darbo and I noticed there was no article on the Atlanta School of Drama, if something even exists by that name. Since you're interested in the evolution of theatre in Georgia, I was wondering if you'd be up to the task. I had a task just recently where I had to write Miami Conservatory because my favorite faux-British soap actress went there. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 01:51, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I've lived in Georgia all my life and have never heard of it, but I'll see what I can dig up. *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 01:53, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
I just did an inital search and came up with nothing. Are you using the info from IMDB? Generally, IMDB isn't terribly trustworthy, much less so than Wikipedia, certainly. I can tell you that there are some notable university theatre programs there, Kennesaw State University, Emory University and Georgia State University and it's possible she studied at one of these. *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 02:01, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
She went to Georgia Southern, and I don't know anything of her going for a master's degree. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 02:14, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
I'll continue looking around for information, but I doubt if I can't find it in the intial search it's notable to have an article. *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 02:29, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] White Deer Hole Creek

Thanks for your support and praise at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/White Deer Hole Creek. I believe I have now addressed all the issues raised. I removed 51 duplicate or non-essential wikilinks from the article and fixed a couple of disambiguation links that had snuck in there along the way. Please let me know if you have any more concerns or suggestions for improvement. Thanks, Ruhrfisch 02:59, 7 December 2006 (UTC) P.S. I like the picture of you as Marley's Ghost (although my favorite is the Ghost of Christmas Present).

Thanks for the compliment! The article looks great now and lost much of it's blue-ish tint. :-) Congrats on your fine work! *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 03:13, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
I tend to edit by section and so certain things get wikilinked in each section. Didn't realize how many duplicate links the article had until I went through it carefully. Thanks again, Ruhrfisch 03:25, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Good News!

[edit] Latter Days

I don't really understand what it is that you want regarding a background section - surely a person in fifty years time wanting to know about homosexuality and religion would check out Homosexuality and religion, or the more specific Mormons and homosexuality? Why does it need to be in the main article? Perhaps a link to the articles mentioned above in see also? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 20:07, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

The underlying reason for having a background section would be to explain why this film was made. This film was not made simply as entertainment but to address a specific issue. Basically this section would briefly describe the Mormon stance on sexuality and possibly give an example of the controversy. While a reader can read the articles on Christianity and homosexuality etc. this section would summarize that, plus apply it specifically to the movie. Additionally it places the movie in a context. If you'd like, I can create the section myself. It may take a day or so and I'll let you know when I've finished with it before I apply it to the article. *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 20:18, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I think that would probably be best - you know what's needed here more than me. I've added a sentence possibly explaining its poor revenues, so I think I've covered all that needs improving - would you consider switching to conitional support on the basis of your section? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 20:39, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Hey, how's the section going? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 07:25, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I have the first paragraph, but I'm doing a little research. I plan on getting it finished tonight. *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 14:04, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Would you mind either putting up the paragraph or leaving it til after the FAC has passed? I want it to pass this year... Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 12:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Thank you, Ganymead, that was exceedingly kind of you. Best, Sandy (Talk) 22:01, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category tags

Hi! I have a question about the Category:Theatre tag. If there is some other identifying tag attached to an article that would let a reader know that there is a relationship to theatre, such as "Playwright" &c., is the Category:Theatre tag no longer necessary for the article to be connected to the Theatre project? I am asking specifically about the Elizabeth Griffith article, but it would be useful to know in general. Thanks! scribblingwoman 22:12, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for answering my question so completely, and for your kind words, on my talk page. I will change the categories on the articles as you suggest. scribblingwoman 00:03, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Romaine Brooks

Thank you! Before I try for FA on that one I want to get hold of one more source, an older exhibition catalogue that I hope will give a better idea of what Brooks criticism looked like before Queer Studies. Anyway I'll probably be putting up The Well of Loneliness for FAC first. Any comments you might have on that one would be much appreciated as well. —Celithemis 23:52, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

OK, thanks for the suggestion -- I'll drop her a note.
I'm afraid I'm not much use when it comes to drama, especially anything after 1930. I have been wondering, though, if Wikipedia really has no article on censorship of the theatre or if I'm missing it somehow. I found some interesting stuff about the "citizens' play jury" system in New York and looked for a place to put it, but couldn't find any coverage at all. —Celithemis 15:42, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to WikiProject LGBT studies!

Hi, Ganymead, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

As you set out for Ithaka, hope the voyage is long
Knowledge is your destiny, but don't ever hurry the journey
May there be many summer mornings when
With what pleasure and joy, you come into harbors seen for the first time

Don't expect Ithaka to make you rich. Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey
And, if I, one of your fellow-travellers, can offer something
To make this journey of yours even more fascinating and enjoyable
This is my assistance with anything I can help.

You seem like you're making a lot of repetitive edits there. You might want to download WikiEd, which has a find and replace tool to make it easier. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 21:20, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Just a head's up

Hiya. I just wanted to let you know that I plan to use Imperial Court System as the LGBT Portal Featured Article in approximately 2 weeks. It is recommended that we only use GA or better articles, but I was truly impressed at how well it was written, and the number of references it contains. The only issue is the formatting of the references. They need to be expanded per Wiki guidelines. If you haven't done this before I will be happy to help you. I'd do it all myself, but I thought it might be fun to collaborate with you on it. Let me know your thoughts on it, either here or on my talk page. Cheers, Jeffpw 21:56, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Brenna and Bronwyn Tosh

Brenna Tosh and Bronwyn Tosh played a role on 33 episodes of a television series. That's enough in my mind to make them notable enough for an article. Since they apparently have no other credits than sharing the same role (a not uncommon practice for identical twins as young child actors) I wouldn't object to merging them into a single article as has been done with similar twin chlid actors. Caerwine Caer’s whines 02:16, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Poetry

Thanks for your message. I don't mind seeing it put up, as I view it as a kind of annual checkup, which this article will need. But, by putting it up, you volunteered to become a collaborator in its maintenance! So, welcome to Poetry, and, please feel free to stay with this article for a long time. Issue III - February 1, 2007

Announcement: If someone requests help or feedback on an article, please try your hardest to help them out if you are able. Thank you.

Project News
  • The LGBT Portal has once again been revamped and a work rota started. Efforts towards Featured Portal status are slowly coming together.
  • The assessment system has been a great success, we have tagged over 4000 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system.
  • The Translation department has changed its focus, to LGBT articles about non-English topics and people on which there may be more information on the relevant foreign Wikipedia. Please add your name if you are fluent in any language other than English.
  • Jumpaclass is picking up slowly, with nine people having entered. With over 2000 stubs we need to improve our article quality. Please sign up and get it going! Challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub!
  • There is an ongoing discussion about the current LGBT categorisation system here, here, and a little bit here. A special page has now been set up here to deal with this.
  • A Watchlist has been set up to monitor controversial and/or highly vandalised articles. It can also be used for article disputes, just add a note explaining the nature of the dispute.
  • With the influx of so many active members, there is now enough support for a LGBT studies peer review, which may be found here. It's in the beta phase at the moment, so bear with us if we make any mistakes. Feel free to peer review any articles you have been working on.
  • It was agreed this month to start reducing the uses of the Notice board, as many members felt that it was not effective. An open tasks template has been created, bringing together important announcements, FAC/FARs, Peer reviews, XfDs, the COTM, and requested articles. You may desire to watchlist it. A Deletion sorting subpage is also now working to bring together XfDs - this should be bot-driven, but we have not currently tagged enough articles to make this fully automated, so please update the list with any LGBT-related XfDs you come across.

[edit] =={{dated prod}} ==

I spotted a couple of articles you prodded. The correct way of doing this is {{subst:prod}}. On pretty much any article already prodded, this will leave a HTML comment (enclosed in <!-- -->) which says something along the line of "do not use 'dated prod' directly". If you do, then the prod won't actually be dated, and the "zomg it's been five days already" magic won't work (oh noes! :)). Have a read of WP:PROD for more info, and thanks for contributing to the cleanup effort. Chris cheese whine 10:23, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I used prod on the first one and got the error message and then used the subst: tage afterwards. Thanks for the reminder! *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 02:50, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Thank you for your positive feedback - I have recieved some negative feedback on my AfDs (then who doesn't recieve negative feedback when nominating an article for deletion?). My current project is clearing out all of the unassessed articles in the WPBiography project and giving them assessment, but some of them fail the WP:BIO standards, like Adiel Stein. Again, thank you, your comments are greatly appreciated. --Ozgod 21:12, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

If I see that the article fails the WP:BIO standards, I nominate it and let the community decide whether it stays or goes. My hope is that someone will' defend it and upgrade the article. I really think every life is important, but if gets orphaned and not updated then it really should go. --Ozgod 21:21, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of GLB people

Yo, I'm working on formatting all the references for all the sublists, would you mind adding images to them like you did for A-E? We can peer review it after that and see what needs doing to the front page and then FL is a real posisbility, don't you think? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 08:37, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, it looks great to me. The list of the unlisted is steadily going down, we have images, and I'm steadily working through the references. Hmm. Do you think we should just go to peer review and I'll just point out that the references will be fixed by the time we go to FLC? It would save valuable time... [edit] Cat: Vaudeville

Hi there. I noticed you'd been busy adding cat:vaudeville to lots of music hall stars. No problem, but not a typically British term for the acts, although many did appear in vaudeville in the US. I do wonder about making a direct equivalence between the two. Sorry, just musing, really ... exeunt pursued by bear Kbthompson 18:37, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I have been careful to check that the British music hall stars actually appeared in America before adding them to the List of vaudeville performers and the category. There does seem to be confusion between the two in some articles and my next project is to attempt to correct that. Indeed, I'm considering creating a List of music hall performers to help out as well as a category. My expertise lies only in American vaudeville, but I'm certainly willing to learn what I can about music hall. Thanks for your interest! *shuffle off to Buffalo* *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 18:42, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
That's great. I too had been thinking of creating a music hall category; but have been struggling with the number of overlapping categories implied by that. There's a similar problem in creating 'former music halls in London' (and elsewhere, because many of them also operated as theatres). Did I also not see (somewhere) a tendency to 'listify' categories? Kbthompson 10:07, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I think, with its importance that a category and list would be appropriate. In that case, if someone down the road doesn't like it and it gets deleted (which I rather doubt, but you never know), the list would remain. What I'm doing with Vaudeville is using the list to justify the category. I just took a look at the categories and it appears that there should be a category for Music hall under Category:Variety entertainment. So, Be BOLD! Go ahead and create it! *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 13:53, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your 02:46, 22 March 2007 edit to List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people/P-T

I have replaced the following people to the list after confirming or supplementing every reference:

  1. Qiao Qiao
  2. Ian Roberts
  3. Anthony Romero
  4. Steve Rubell
  5. Bayard Rustin
  6. Stephen Spinella
  7. Blyth Tait
  8. Andrew Tobias

I'm a little confused why your comment only says you added an image when in that edit you removed eight people from the list. Am I missing something here? --67.188.0.96 02:46, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't recall removing any of these entries. I did remove a few entries from the list as a whole, but only because they did not have citations or were improperly cited, but I'm sure I'd remember if I removed 8. I shall look into it. Thanks for restoring them! *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 19:56, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
