Gangster Town

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gangster Town is a Sega Master System game set in America during the 1930's which utilized the Light Phaser gun.

[edit] Story

The game takes place during the prohibition era of the 1930s. You play the role of a detective out to clean up the city of the rampant crime in the city and run out the gangsters in the town.

[edit] Gameplay

In the game, the player must shoot out the many Gangsters in the town. The player's position varies from shootouts in the town, a shootout while the player is driving in a car, a shootout in a bar, and eventually ending in a final showdown in a shipyard.

During gameplay, when the player shoots a gangster, he will fly up in the air as an angel with wings. If the player so chooses to, he can shoot the angel gangster so that he doesn't go to heaven for extra points, however, this can lead the player to serious consequences with the living gangsters, as they can have an advantage of shooting the player while doing this. Also, during some stages, a blonde damsel in distress will be seen being held up by a gangster. Shooting the blonde will result in the player losing life, which is one of the early instances of the "Innocent Bystander" gameplay mechanic seen in most Light Gun games today.

Usually at the end of a stage, the gangster mob boss will appear. Unlike the regular gangsters, the mob boss will take up to 4 hits to defeat, and after dying, will fall to the ground. After the boss is defeated, the player is evaluated on their overall performance.

[edit] Trivia

If a player gets shot to death once during gameplay, he has one chance to shoot back on the hat that gets shot off of the detective for a continue on the stage. The player can only do this three times in the game until this can not be done again.
