Gangajalghati is a town and a community development block in the sadar subdivision of Bankura District in West Bengal, India.

Gangajalghati CD Block had a population of 1,62,007 in 2001. [1] Out of this 83,974 are literates and 23,504 are below six years of age. [2]

The Government of West Bengal along with District Administration have selected few blocks of Bankura District as the most promising areas for setting up big and medium scale Industries. Gangajalghati is one of them. [3]

In 2006 state assembly elections Angad Bauri of CPI (M) won the Gangajaghati assembly seat (reserved for SC) defeating his nearest rival Swapan Bauri of AITC. In 2001, Ramcharan Bauri of CPI (M) defeated Swapan Bauri. In 1996 and 1991, Angad Bauri, won the seat defeating Guiram Maji and Phatik Chandra Mandal (both of INC) respectively. In 1987, 1982 and 1977, Nabani Bauri of CPI (M) defeated Phatik Chandra Mandal, Guiram Maji and Saktipada Maji (all of INC}. [4]

Gangajalghati is part of Durgapur (Lok Sabha constituency). [5]
