It is considered as heart of Coimbatore. It is one of the major Commercial area of the city. Central bus stand, town bus stand, State express transport corparation bus stand and Omni bus stand are located here. There are large number of buses to Tirupur, Erode, Mettupalayam, Sathyamangalam from central bus stand. One can go to any part of city from town bus stand. Omni bus stnd which was opened recently reduced traffic in Gandhipuram. Buses to Chennai, Bangalore, Pondicherry, Thiruvanthapuram, Cochin, Calicut and south bound buses start from Omni bus stand. Long Distance State express buses start from SETC stand.

Few years back, buses bound to Trichy and Madurai have been moved to another Bus stand in the city located at Singanallur.

There is also a bus stand at Ukkadam for the buses plying to Pollachi, Udmalpet and Kerala.
