Gandalf (Norse mythology)

Gandalf is a dwarf in Norse mythology, and he appears in the poem Völuspá in the Edda. The name Gandalf means "wand-elf". J. R. R. Tolkien named the wizard Gandalf in his stories after this dwarf.
