New moves can be unlocked in the fight championship to help make the character better at fighting other gangs. The game features a hip hop soundtrack to go with the urban gang culture. This game has been criticized by many critics due to bad graphics, controls, and gameplay.[citation needed] The music group D12 played a part in the game's development.

[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The game takes place in a fictional American city named Grand Central City, which is in turmoil due to gang wars. Players will control Tre, a rookie gang member of Outlawz, which was once the most powerful gang in the city. The gang is being troubled by a rival gang, the Headhunterz so the player will set out on a journey to restore the previous glory of the Outlawz. On the way it's revealed that the gang leader is planning to abandon the Outlawz and join the Headhunterz. After learning this Tre viciously attacks and kills him and takes his place. The game ends with the player eliminating each Headhunter and watching a cutscene where Tre is shot three times but survives, steals Justiss's(Headhunterz gang boss)gun and shooting him in the brain and Tre just drops. When the police arrive it's stated that only Justiss was found, indicating that eather Tre's body was carried away by his "homies" or he escaped with them.

The emphasis of the game is chiefly on street fights involving many members of rival gangs. Weapons are also available during fights such as baseball bats, lead pipes, hammers and some guns. The game has not gained any noteworthy response due to many aspects, one of which is that one can not drive any vehicles, accompanied by poor graphics and lack of challenges and hard boss fights.[citation needed] Detroit-based rap group D12 has provided the music as well as character likenesses and voice over for important characters in the game. The main attraction for gamers will be the music which somewhat saved the face of the game.[citation needed]

Spoilers end here.
