[edit] History

It began in spring of nineteen ninety-four. Two friends observed the segregation of different groups on the San Diego State University campus. Their idea was to unite the student body's universalities by creating a fraternal association stressing Academics, Brotherhood, Leadership, and the pursuit of Multicultural Unity for university campuses across the nation. The goal was to create leaders for the future; the types of leaders who realize you must work within the community in order to enhance humanity, the types of leaders who would work to breakdown barriers of any kind that confine this campus and the nation from being united. The concept was taken to the head of Greek life at San Diego State University, Doug Case, who supported the idea and believed that others would as well. Thus on 22nd day of March Gamma Phi Epsilon was born.

[edit] Principles

Gamma Phi Epsilon was founded on four basic principles that all members strive to uphold in their daily lives. They are known as the Four Pillars of Gamma Phi Epsilon.

Academics Members will strive to excel in their academic career at the institution they are enrolled. Gamma Phi Epsilon, as a whole, will encourage and assist each member to succeed in their educational field. Gamma Phi Epsilon members will serve and assist fellow brothers in individual studies, and encourage them to participate in the academic community. Gamma Phi Epsilon will function as a guidance and patronage program, in that the ultimate goal will be for members to graduate in their educational profession.

Brotherhood Gamma Phi Epsilon will act as a family oriented organization. All members will forever be brothers, and will be treated equally with the utmost respect. The Gamma Phi Epsilon Brotherhood will promote, educate, and assist each member in order that they may maintain their integrity and love for one another.

Leadership Each member of Gamma Phi Epsilon will strive to become better leaders within the university, surrounding communities, and within themselves. A member of Gamma Phi Epsilon will conduct himself as a gentleman who is ready to assist and take charge of any situation.

Multicultural Unity Gamma Phi Epsilon serves as an institution to assist members in attaining knowledge of the importance of their members cultural background and history, as well as their own. Gamma Phi Epsilon strives to educate its members and neighboring communities of the various cultures of society. Gamma Phi Epsilon does not attempt to combine or breakdown cultures into one, however it does stress the importance of each culture and promote the importance of collaboration and unity among different cultures as a way of achieving a common fellowship.
