From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gamma Force BBS - circa 1994 - was a BBS located in the Columbus, OH area.
Operating on a single node in the 614 area code, the Gamma Force BBS was open to the public, and available free of charge.
FidoNet mail, LORD, various other door games, and software archives were prominent features.
The BBS remained in operation until the advent of widespread internet services.
Gamma Force IRC was created as the evolution of the Gamma Force community sometime around 1997. The IRC server was initially a modified EFNet ircd/hybrid, and, peaking in population circa 2000 with 6 linked servers distributed around the United States.
The network now runs a custom ircd based on irc2 known as IRIS.
The network is based around freedom of speech and expression, and currently is home to a number of specialty groups.
No services (ChanServ, NickServ, etc) are offered on the network, however; bots are allowed and welcomed.
30 character nicknames are allowed.
