ΓΑΛ - Gamma Alpha Lambda is a national Christian sorority founded at Missouri State University in 2003. Its brother Christian fraternity is Delta Tau.
[edit] Gamma Alpha Lambda History
Gamma Alpha Lambda (ΓΑΛ) became an official Missouri State University Religious Sorority on September 16, 2003 (which is now our celebrated founder's day) when it was passed by the Student Government Association. GAL was the first Christian Sorority on the campus of Missouri State University, and the first Christian sorority in all of the Midwest.
The unique idea of Gamma Alpha Lambda (a.k.a. GAL) originated at the Baptist Student Union in the Spring of 2003. It was loosely organized and more or less a fun thing. However, the founding mothers, Brooke McDowell, Lindsay White, Sarah Jo Young, Laura Fenton, Emily Brooker, and Dr. Debra McDowell, faculty advisor, felt a calling from the Lord and took Gamma Alpha Lambda to the next level. The need for a sisterhood of believers had arisen to combat the typical stereotype of a sorority and be an alternative to the social sorority. With persistent and pursuing hearts, the Lord blessed their efforts and purpose and made GAL a reality.
The first year in existence was amazing. The Executive Officers, Brooke McDowell, President; Lindsay White, Vice-President; Sarah Jo Young, Treasurer; Laura Fenton, Secretary; and Keela Foughty, New Member Coordinator, were honored to serve the ladies of Gamma Alpha Lambda during the first year.

Summer of 2005 was an exciting one for GAL as they became a national organization with the help of Brooke McDowell, Emily Brooker and Jennifer Collier. Also a board of directors that advise the organization was created.
Also in 2005, the presidency changed hands to Jennifer Collier. During the 2005-2006 school year, GAL's membership at Missouri State reached over 100. GAL also started the annual panel called "Guys and GALs." The Bible study was also revamped into small accountability groups and new chairs such as encouragement and philanthropy were added.
The fall of 2006 brought along two more advisors at Missouri State University, Dr. Sandra House and Allison Coltharp, as well as a new president, Leah Gronewold. As of Spring 2007 the Alpha Chapter at Missouri State University boasts over 100 Active members with a new Spring rush class of 26 to be added to that number in April. The Beta Chapter at Northwest Missouri State University also has over 100 members under president Katie Kindler. And the newest GAL Chapter, the Gamma Chapter at University of Missouri Kansas City, will be rushing their first class in 2007 under President Whitney Wilson. GAL hopes that God will continue to bless their sisterhood with more chapters at more schools around the United States. They are looking forward to growing with God and seeing where He leads them.
[edit] Purpose
The purpose of the Alpha Chapter of Gamma Alpha Lambda shall be to honor God through our hearts and actions by building relationships through fellowship and carrying each others' burdens with the focus on becoming Godly women of character. There shall be an emphasis on unity and lifting each other up as sisters in Christ. GAL sisters are Christian examples seeking to make differences through servant hood.
