Gamin is a word adopted from French (where it also has a female form gamine) for a boy, meaning: abandoned and homeless, who roames the streets; urchin.


Gamin is a file and directory monitoring system that is an independent implementation of a subset of FAM, the File Alteration Monitor. It is a service that allows for the detection of modifications to a file or directory. gam_server is a daemon for Gamin.
