Gallery Gabrichidze

Gallery Gabrichidze (Pleinckstraat 54, 1000 Brussels) is a newly established art gallery in Brussels. Concerned with the current political issues on the European and international agenda, it aims to be an art gallery as much as a platform for communication, discussion and discourse. Through the exhibition of artworks it strives to open critical debate on controversial issues.

The mission of the independent, nonpolitical organization, “Gallery Gabrichidze,” is to assert values important to all of mankind: the provision of complete equality of all citizens; the advancement of a culture of non-violence and tolerance, the solving of the ethnical and gendering problems, the realization of independent analysis of political, social, and educational institutions. Some projects already scheduled are: “The Alternative Reality – the USSR and the USA in the 21st century”, in which the visitor finds himself in an imaginary world, where the Iron Curtain and Cold War continue. Further plans include projects related to the Death Penalty, European-Turkish Relationships, and self-identification in the modern technological world. The aim of Gallery's day-to-day work is to evoke debate. “We believe that before solving problems, it is necessary to comprehend them, begin a dialogue, and bring it to wide discussion. These are the integral parts of political and social culture ” – describes the Gallery’s founder Nick Gabrichidze. Through lectures, workshops, and group discussions, a broad spectrum of opinions will be represented by highly qualified experts.

To implement its goals Gallery Gabrichidze will carry out the following activities:

• Promotion of the artists’ works through an active exhibition program of professionalism, originality and quality

• Publishing – with publication and distribution of aquarterly magazine, books, catalogues, and newsletters of events

• Open Mike – uniting the creative potential of the musicians and literary men in anentertaining format.

]Exhibitions and agenda

The opening exhibition “The Tribute to the Rotonde” is an attempt to display the stylistic legacy of 20th century masters such as Modigliani, Picasso, Renoir and Klimt in the contemporary art. Named after the famous hangout, the Parisian club “Rotonde,” this exhibition aims to be reminiscent of those days when artists played a vital role in the political decision making process; when their works were a medium not only for artistic but, also, political and social messages. The exhibition includes the prominent contemporary artists Vaidotas Bakutis (Lithuania), Florence Gray (California, USA), David Tycho (Vancouver, Canada), Vera Akotuah (UK), Jan Wurm (USA), "Artenade Group": BOF (Nigeria), Christaan Nagel (South Africa), Job Olu Ania (Nigeria), Kinglew Chibuzor Nwabia (Nigeria/Romania), Joao Goncalves (Brasil), Ateuyi Ify (Nigeria). The opening ceremony will provide for an open debate on the role of the fine art in European social and political life in 21st century with participation of selected EU politicians and contemporary artists.
