Galhinna

Galhinna is a beautiful little village just outside Kandy (22Km) Sri Lanka, with a population around 10,000- 15,000 and known for its lush green tea plantations. It is known for producing some of Sri Lanka's finest poets and given the nation so many educated servants. Another significant fact is that this little place has produced some of the nation’s best businessmen. The majority of the people here are Muslims surrounded by Sinhala and Tamil villages. Most of the men here are proud owners of some of the biggest companies in Sri Lanka especially in the Textile Industry .

Galhinna has one of the finest schools (Al Manar) in the area. It was established in 1934 and since produced some great men and women to the society. The school provides education for about 1300 pupils. Even though this is a government school the recipe behind its success is the local donors who have pledged large sums of money to keep the school alive.

The Galhinna Grand Mosque is another important place in the village, with the Islamic Madrasa it has been one of the wealthiest institutions in Sri Lanka for the past two centuries. Anyone who travel to this place should visit Periya Kallu (Huge Rock) as the name suggest it is a massive rock which gives you a magnificent view of hills and paddy fields, especially during sunrise and sunset.
