Galdr

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Galdr (plural galdrar) is one Old Norse word for "spell, incantation" (compare Old English: gealdor or galdor, derived from the word which has become yell Modern English ' and Old High German: Galstar from which is Modern German Galsterei (Witchcraft) and Galsterweib (Witch), cf. the Icelandic verb að gala - to sing, call out, yell).

The Galdralag is the "magic spell metre" of Old Norse poetry, containing a fourth line which echoes and varies the third line.
