Galaxy 19

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Galaxy 19 is a future communications satellite owned by Intelsat planned to be located at 97° W longitude, serving the North American market. Galaxy 19 is intended to replace Galaxy 25 which is nearing the end of its design life. It is currently being built by Space Systems/Loral, as part of its FS-1300 line. Galaxy 19 was formerly known as Intelsat Americas 9 and is planned to be launched late 2007. This new satellite is expected to provide services in the C-band, Ku-band, and Ka-band.

The clients for Galaxy 19 are expected to include the current clients for Galaxy 25. Expanded services include higher-powered C-band and Ku-band transponders as well as new, high-power Ka-band service.

Galaxy 19 is scheduled to be launched by Sea Launch in late 2007[1]. Sea launch experienced a failure of a vehicle launched from the Sea Launch platform on January 30, 2007.[2]
