Galaxis Online

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Galaxis Online is a turn based, space MMORPG set in the year 2630. It was created by Derek "Graphikos" Thomas with the assistance of his brothers, Josh (Assimilate) and Jeremy (KarNaj).

Players can choose between 4 different races, each with their own advantages, as well as a variety of different ships. Choices for the latter range from fighters to frigates, either of which can be armed to the teeth with many different weapons. Shuttles and Freighters can be equipped with many different 'outfits.' These equipment add-ons give the player the ability to scan enemy planets for resources, mine asteroids or play stock market guru by utilitizing the artificial commodity market to buy and sell a wide selection of commodities.

Apart from these features, the player has a choice between attacking and trading, both giving experience resulting in more bonuses. Galaxis Online also offers a storyline feature, where the player can embark on quests resulting in treasure or bonus payments.

The game is spread out over a number of solar systems, each system being inhabited by up to 8 or more planets which house the colonies of the players. Each planet can accommodate up to 18 players letting them form an alliance to fight against other alliances, or join together with another alliance to wage war against the same opponent.

The game features a point and rank system for both alliances and players for competitive play. As the player gets weapons, outfits, ships or new technologies, they gain points which accumulate and bring the player further up the ranks. Alliance points are worked out by adding together all of the alliance players points. Out of the hundreds of alliances, only the most organized and strongest alliances make it to the top. It is common for some alliances to only be around for a single round.

Due to the rapid expansion of super-power empires the Cyndel race was forced to make room. Fueled by their rage for revenge, they are widely known to have more aggressive natures and usually engage in pirate-like activities.

[edit] The Ships

[edit] The Pod

The Shuttlepod is the basic starter ship for any trader; weapons mounts were stripped and the engine was reduced in order to accommodate larger cargo space for commodities.

[edit] The Gunman

For an attacker, the Gunman will be the basic ship to begin with. All room in the chassis has been filled with weapon slots, leaving no no space for a cargo bay. The gunman also has more armor than the shuttlepod and it is best suited for combat situations.

[edit] The Shuttlecraft

For a growing trader, the Shuttlecraft is the perfect investment. Its larger chassis has given manufacturers the ability to increase cargo space, utilize a larger engine and even make room for a single weapon.

[edit] The Avader

The Avader is the better advancement of Gunman. The chassis was made slightly bigger and now includes a small cargo bay and room for other outfits. With these slight improvements and the room taken up by the larger, more efficient and faster engine, room for weapons has been reduced.

[edit] The Courier

The Courier is the mainstay of a growing fleet. The chassis was developed into a frigate style chassis and allows for many improvements. The cargo bay space was increased three-fold and gave room for many more outfits. There was even room for more weapons, along with the armor and engine. Most smaller fleets will steer clear of a fleet with one of these due to its offensive and defensive capabilities.

[edit] The Avenger

Advancements in armor and propulsion technology gave rise to the Avenger. Again, the chassis was made bigger and now requires a 2-man crew to pilot it. With the increase in space due to the chassis, and the smaller and similarly efficient engine, there was room for a larger cargo bay and more space to install extra weapons.

[edit] The Galactic Freighter

The advent of Hyperspace Technology led to the development of these huge ships. With a roomy cargo bay due to the small engine, it is a great investment for traders. Despite the room taken up by the cargo bay, there was room to install additional weapons to defend against the people looking to steal the large amounts of cargo it can hold.

[edit] The Infiltrator

Seeing the need for a combative counterpart to the Galactic Freighter, the Infiltrator was created, sporting extra cargo space and more weapons mounts. Traders these days have a tough time fending off these ships when they appear. No growing fleet should be without one of these.

[edit] The Solicit

Frigates have gotten bigger as hyperspace, propulsion and armor technology have grown. The Solicit is twice as big as the Galactic Freighter and sports twice the cargo bay size. Since this ship's development, Infiltrator-built fleets have had much trouble pirating fleets. Additions included more room for weapons and armor strength that was increased nearly 50% over normal.

[edit] The Replicer

Of course, with every advancement for the trading industry, someone has to make an advancement which threatens it. The Replicer was this threat. Nothing much was changed apart from the chassis size which allows for more weapons and even a larger cargo bay to deal with pirating traders huge cargo bays.

[edit] The Bulk Freighter

The 4 great races have spread out all over the galaxy. The need to transport huge stockpiles of resources became greater than ever. Thus, the Bulk Freighter was developed. With a newly developed chassis and ship design to allow for small size but plenty of room inside the ship it became the marvel of the trading industry. Even the Replicer has much trouble getting a fleet of Bulk Freighters to surrender. Nowadays, Replicers and older ship fleets resort to picking on the smaller trading fleets made of older ships.

[edit] The Araton

Using the same chassis design for the Bulk Freighter, engineers stuck more armor and more weapons onto it removing most of the cargo bay space. It's now a large threat to any fleet traversing the galaxy.

[edit] The Fosgate

Armor, propulsion and hyperspace technology has reached its peak and a new ship was designed to hold the technology. The Fosgate was that ship and is the most desired ship of any fleet. It can hold such huge amounts of cargo due to its design, a suited up Courier with easily removable armored containers attached to it. It made trading more efficient and quicker rather than unloading cargo from a cargo bay, the containers can be removed and fresh ones equipped letting the ships get on their way in a record time of 10 minutes.

[edit] The Exstar

With weapon technology getting bigger and trader ships getting stronger, something was needed to combat this. The Exstar was developed for this case. This ship is so big it can equip so many weapons and still has room for cargo. No fleet is safe from a fleet of these so many traders try and avoid these at all costs.

[edit] The Weapons

[edit] Particle Cannon

Particle cannons are just what they say: Particles. The cannon itself picks up space debris and freezes its content into a usable form that is fired in space. This is the most basic of all weapons. Something you must have if you have nothing at all.

[edit] Particle Cannon Turret

The Particle Cannon Turret (PCT) is only a pair of particle cannons, that have been mounted on a swivel base with an automated targeting system. This method is proven to be much more effective for attacking improving accuracy to inflict maximum damage.

[edit] Diffusion Cannon

The diffusion cannon gets its name from the way its ammunition is formed. Positive electrons are slowed, separated (or diffused), and then re-assembled in a projectile form. It is a little more expensive than the Particle cannon, but a wise investment.

[edit] Diffusion Cannon Turret

The Diffusion Cannon Turret (DCT) is only a pair of diffusion cannons, that have been mounted on a swivel base with an automated targeting system. This method is proven to be much more effective for attacking improving accuracy to inflict maximum damage.

[edit] Positron Cannon

The Positron Cannon is a laser weapons system which fires a highly energetic monochromatic coherent photon beam, charged with positive ion's with excellent focusing abilities. It has the power to burn through hull armour like a blowtorch and is a prime investment for any fleet.

[edit] Positron Cannon Turret

The Positron Cannon Turret is as it says. 2 Positron Cannons on a rapid-response turret for quick movement and lock-on. Not only is it efficient, but it deals out double the damage.

[edit] Volatic Purge

The Volatic Purge is the most destructive weapon invented. While laser is used to heat up deuterium particles to millions of degrees, ion technology then charges these heated particles electrically and electromagnetic knowledge was used to contain this dangerous plasma. The fiery plasma bolt looks very nice when its on its way to the target, but from the view of a spaceships crew, this friendly looking plasma sphere means deadly destruction.

[edit] Defraction Dart Launcher

The Defraction Dart Launcher is one of the most simple weapons you will find. Since it is relatively cheap, and can be mounted on any ship, almost every ship owner has at least one of these installed on his ship.

[edit] Missile Rack

Missiles are 3 times more powerful than Defraction Darts. Whereas the Defraction Darts have no homing capabilities, Missiles are fitted with a targeting system which means the target never escapes from the path of a missile.

[edit] Torpedo Bay

Advancements in he missile lead to the development of the torpedo. Packing more explosives than ever, any ship has a lot to fear when one of these is seen heading towards them. Unlike the missiles, torpedoes are blind-fire weapons and are normally used for larger, more slower targets.

[edit] The Outfits

[edit] Asteroid Material Extractor

In every system there are fields full of asteroids rich in materials and value. The Asteroid Material Extractor deploys up to 10 automatic mining robots per system installed to retrieve these minerals buried in the asteroids. The mining robots don't work in gravity, so a fleet has to stay in orbit to mine these resources.

[edit] Subspace Scanner

Intelligence is your friend in offensive situations. The Subspace scanner deploys long range scanning probes which can relay information on the targets defensive power. Of course, the probe can be detected and could be destroyed before it has a chance to transmit any information.

[edit] Small Cargo Modification

With traders, cargo space is their friend. More cargo space means more commodities to be traded and a higher profit. The Small Cargo Modification increases the cargo bay size by a small, yet helpful, amount.

[edit] Large Cargo Modification

Advancements on thinner and stronger hull armor have lead to more room inside the ship. Large Cargo Modifications give the ship the ability to harness this space to hold much more cargo than using the Small Cargo Modification.
