Galad Damodred

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lord Galadedrid "Galad" of House Damodred is a fictional character in the Wheel of Time fantasy series by Robert Jordan

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

He is the only son of Tigraine Mantear and Taringail Damodred and the half brother of Rand al'Thor through his mother, and Elayne and Gawyn Trakand through his father. His sign is a winged silver sword, point-down. He trained with Warders in Tar Valon and is an extremely good swordsman (besting Hammar repeatedly) and "always does the right thing, with no regard for who it hurts." He joined the Whitecloaks [1] and was quickly promoted due to his skill with a sword and zeal for righteousness. The Whitecloaks believe in the destruction of Darkfriends and they believe that all Aes Sedai are Darkfriends. Gawyn says that Galad joined the Whitecloaks partly because he wanted to find Egwene, because he is in love with her.

Upon hearing that Eamon Valda, the Lord Captain Commander of the Children of the Light, assaulted and killed his step mother Morgase, he rode with Trom, Dain Bornhald, and Jaret Byar to the Whitecloaks' new headquarters to kill him. In Knife of Dreams, he challenges him to "Trial Under the Light", a duel to the death between two of the Children. After a fierce battle, Galad kills Valda and is acclaimed the new Lord Captain Commander.

It is speculated that he will be the future romantic interest of Berelain. This remains to be seen in a forthcoming novel.

His name is similar to the Galahad of Arthurian legend.
