Gaira (Gargantua)

Gaira is a daikaiju from the 1966 Toho produced film, War of the Gargantuas. It is also one of the more human kaiju of Kaiju Boom.

Gaira is an evil, wicked monster born from Frankenstein cells that fell to the sea. He first sinks a Japanese fishing boat, then attacks coastal cities in Japan. He is almost killed when the Self-Defense Force uses their maser cannons against him in an electric lake. But Gaira is saved by the Brown Gargantua(Sanda), who carries him to safety. But when he found out that Gaira fed on human beings, he attacked him. Gaira escapes and then they reach Tokyo by night. The Gargantuas destroy most of the city in their battle, but a bomb dropped by a helicopter hits a volcano under Tokyo Bay. The volcano explodes and kills both monsters.

Gaira is has massive strength and can use different kinds of tools such as projectiles and clubs as weapons. The monster is also weak against electricity and extreme heat. He also avoids light because he is used to the darkness of the sea waters.

He appeared in the television episode, Go! Greenman episode 4. Greenman vs. Gaira (1973).
He also appears in stock footage in Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002).
In Godzilla: Final Wars (2004), it shows Gaira as one of the dangerous daikaiju that have attacked Earth.

Either one of the Gargantuas would be given a chance to battle Godzilla, but that became a lost project.
The volcano was supposed to destroy the Gargantuas and Tokyo, but it was changed so only the Gargantuas are killed.
