[edit] Appearances

Gai is one of the more charming SNK characters, with a great fame in Japan. Since his appearance in Buriki One, Gai has made various cameos in SNK games.

His first appearance in a game is as a striker in the King of Fighters '99 Evolution (secret) and later in King of Fighters 2000 (Takuma Sakazaki's alternate striker).

Later, in SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash series, as a SNK character card and one of the four Buriki One characters pictured in this game, with his name misspelled as "guy".

Recently, Gai appeared as a mid-boss in King of Fighters XI alongside Silber, the boss of Buriki One, both of them can be unlockable. This is the first game Gai is a playable character after his origin game.

[edit] Story

Gai is 17 years old (in Buriki One) and in spite of his age, he is a well rounded and skilled fighter. But he has a cocky personality that is matched by few people, though when it's time to fight, he becomes serious and focused on the fight at hand. At the tender age of 10, Gai was able to best many masters of different martial arts. Soon afterwards he began gathering knowledge of different martial arts and applying them in unison to create a complete form of combat. Thus Gai decides to enter the tournament “Buriki One: World Grapple Tournament '99 in Tokyo” to demonstrate his skills as a fighter. [1] He also joins to the KOF XI tournament to test his strength.

[edit] Gameplay

Gai mastered his own martial art, self-titled Total Fighting, a mixture of various Martial Arts, like Vale Tudo and MMA. His fighting techniques are based on physical motions alone without the use of ki. He uses strikes, holds, and pressure points to dispatch his opponets, creating a unique fighting method not seen in the 2-D fighting game world.

Gai is one of the few MMA/Vale Tudo characters to be shown in the fighting game world along with Craig Marduk from Tekken series and Vanessa Lewis from Virtua Fighter series.
